Cystotomy Surgical Discharge Summary
Physical examination findings
The pre-surgical physical exam revealed a tense abdomen which palpates abnormally.
Testing findings
Pre-anesthetic lab work revealed no abnormalities. Stone analysis is pending at this time. We will contact you as soon as the results are available. For now, please use the Urinary SO diet you have. If we need to change the diet we will notify you once the stone analysis is made available.
Surgery
A midline incision was made to allow access to the bladder. A small incision was then made into the bladder for stone removal. Post-operative radiographs were not performed.
Recovery
Post-operative recovery was quiet and uneventful. "Coco Puff" was offered Purina canned Urinary diet and water post-operatively.
Prescriptions
Please follow all label directions regarding the use of prescribed medications. Please finish out the previously prescribed Rimadyl, Tramadol, and Clavamox that you have.
Follow up care and testing
Only small meals and water should be offered tonight. Normal feedings may resume tomorrow morning. Please do not change the prescribed urinary diet unless directed otherwise. Dietary control is extremely important to reduce the risk of reoccurrence of bladder stones.
Exercise restriction is paramount to an uneventful recovery. Please keep Coco Puff inside and quiet for the next 10-14 days with leash walks only for urination and defecation. No running, no jumping, no stairs, and no bathing for 10-14 days. An Elizabethan collar is recommended at all times during the recovery to prevent self-inflicted trauma to the surgical site. Sutures are buried under the skin but we want to recheck Coco Puff in 2 weeks.
Description: Meet sweet Cocoa. Cocoa and her 2 siblings were surrendered to a local south east shelter when the owner decided she couldn't care for them anymore. Cocoa, Peanut and Midnight are all 3 very sweet, get along with all dogs and even cats! They are housetrained too! Cocoa is very loyal and only wants to be with you. She came to us with a nasty urinary tract infection and bladder stones. She has breezed thru the surgery and is on the road to recovery, but she will need to stay on a prescription urinary S.O. dog food for life. Shes been very stoic thru her ordeal and is one tough little cookie! This sweet girl deserves a forever home that will baby her and give her the attention she seeks. Stay tuned as we learn more about this amazing trio.
