Schatzi came into rescue when her beloved owner was battling a serious illness and soon passed away. When she still had Schatzi, she found it easiest to just leave food out for her. She was well loved, but not being able to keep her under the circumstances, Schatzi was listed on a Facebook for-sale/free group site and ATDR brought her into their fold severely overweight. Thanks to her foster mom putting her on the Biggest Loser diet plan, she is now down to 14 pounds! Being a miniature dachshund who should usually weigh in the 10-pound range, she still has a ways to go, but for now "Good job Schatzi! Keep up the good work and you’ll get there." Schatzi has allergies and some hair loss. Her foster mom now has her on allergy shots which seem to be helping. We’re not sure if this will be seasonal or if she will need the shots year-round. ATDR and Schatzi are taking it one step at a time and thankful for every small victory.
Even with all the things going on in Schatzi's precious little life, she is a very sweet and loving baby. She is completely housetrained and crate trained, although she doesn't require crating when her foster mom is away from home. Other than the few health issues listed here, she's the perfect dog! Schatzi is so deserving of a loving forever home, but she wouldn't be a good apartment dog. She 'talks' to her foster family by barking and gets very excited when they arrive home, barking many sweet hellos! If you have it in your heart to offer Schatzi a devoted forever home where she will be loved and properly cared for, please fill out an adoption application for her. She’s oh so worthy of the best home out there!
3.21.20 Upate: Just look at this girl now! She's done an AMAZING job on her diet! We're so happy to see her much thinner and healthier! Good job Schatzi!!!
