Description: Maxey is a tiny, 7lb, five year old black and tan miniature dachshund who served her time as a breeder in a puppymill. Her former owner stated that "she was just no good for breeding" and needed to be retired. When she arrived she was the filthiest dog that her rescuer had ever seen, covered in mud, fleas and ticks! Several baths and a much needed nail trim later, revealed a precious sweet thing who in spite of all she's suffered was giving kisses to her rescuer. Her physical condition is terrible, a thin brittle coat, showing grey skin through all of the missing hair on her body. The raw skin under her muzzle is more than likely from a flea allergy, blood and scabs under a much too snug collar, that had to be cut off of her. It is apparent that Maxey had never been inside before and warm blankets were a miracle to her. While her body heals she will be enjoying life in her new foster home where she will learn to play and trust for the first time. Maxey will be vetted soon and we will know more about her healthcare issues, please stay tuned for more information....
Update April 30, 2007: Maxey Mae was vetted last week and when they made the incision for her spay - a HEARTWORM crawled out of her belly. The entire clinic staff was called in to see it, what an educational opportunity. She came through the procedure and will be kept quiet and allow her time to recuperate before her upcoming heartworm treatment. What a life she has endured in five short years as a backyard breeder. Please send good thoughts to this sweet little girl.
Update May 31, 2007: Maxey Mae is doing very well and has just started heartworm treatment. She should be ready to go in July.
