Description:
If you’re reading this, it’s very likely that Lulu’s adorable face drew you in. Understandably so, she is as cute as dachshunds come -- but there’s much more to Lulu than meets the eye. Lulu was very scared and anxious when she was initially surrendered by her owners. She has had a few incidents of fear reactivity/aggression while in foster care. She's terrified of a vacuum cleaner and has the ability to snap when afraid. Lulu is going to need an experienced, patient adopter who is willing to take the time to build trust with Lulu. Lulu coexists fine with other dogs and cats; mostly ignores them. Her sole focus is on her human. What Lulu needs is her person to feel safe and secure. She's a sweet, loving little “Velcro dog” who wants to be with her person 24/7, a total lap dog. Lulu needs to be in an adult(s) only home. No small children (bite risk). Lulu prefers to sleep with or near her human(s).
Lulu may be a bit of a flight risk initially. She can dig under a fence very quickly so she should be supervised while outside. Once she is attached to her adopter though, Lulu will stick to them like glue. Lulu is quite vocal. She likes to "talk" and has a lot to say. It's actually very cute and endearing. But she can be a persistent barker if she is not happy, for example when crated. Lulu would not be a good fit for apartment living due to shared walls with neighbors. Lulu has done reasonably well with house training and can use a doggy door but it may be necessary for her person to go outside with her in order for to do her business. Lulu has a moderate energy level. She enjoys going for walks and behaves well on leash.
Lulu is skittish and leery of strangers. She doesn't appreciate having anyone she doesn't know reach for her. Lulu will bond hard with her person but she needs time to adjust. If you’re looking for a constant companion, a little shadow, Lulu might be a good fit for you. Lulu’s got a lot of love to give but with that love comes the responsibility of keeping Lulu safe, as well as others.
Please consider submitting an adoption application if you have no children and you’re experienced with dogs like Lulu who need more than to quickly fit in. She’ll make a good loyal companion for the right person and we know her forever home is out there!
