Mini Cooper was found by Dallas Animal Services in January, lying on the side of the road, exhausted, critically injured and unable to walk. Normally an animal in his condition would be humanely euthanized, but something about his spirit made the staff want to help him. The shelter's vet cleaned his wounds and started him on antibiotics & pain meds, while their Rescue Coordinator, Mark Cooper reached out to rescue groups for help. As often happens in the rescue community, dozens of emails made the rounds, plans were made and one of our Dallas volunteers rushed to the shelter. Every dog should have a name and before leaving the shelter he was dubbed Cooper, in honor of Mark Cooper, his rescue angel.
Cooper, also known as Mini Cooper, Coop DeVille, Coop and a variety of other names went to one of our veteran fosters and within a short amount of time, even the ATDR vets were amazed at his recovery! You can read his story here. We don't know how he came to be injured, but we're forever grateful to all who took part in his rescue and recovery, including all the wonderful people who shared his story, sent emails and donations to help with his care. Today Coop is walking & running and everyone who meets him instantly recognizes the strong spirit within this tiny body. This is what rescue is all about!
