Rufus is a standard-sized, very light cream wirehair weenie. He was apparently abandoned along with several other dachshunds at a shelter in Waco after being used by a breeder for his first year of life. Unfortunately, this is an all too common practice. He was underweight and very unkempt. After a full medical checkout, neuter and chipping, he was introduced to his foster family of Shortie and Ellie (longhair tweenies). At first, he was very timid, being afraid to go outside without a human present. After several months with his new playmates, he is now "running with the pack". Rufus is very playful (but gentle) with Ellie, and the play can go on for hours. We would suggest that he not be a single dog, and have at least one companion.
Vet checkups indicate that he is between one and two years old. His coat is getting shiny and he has already put on one pound, with several more to go. Rufus is definitely needing lots of attention and belly-rubs.
