Special Needs: Just wanted to let you know I took Diego into the vet on Tuesday of this past week and he is good to go. They did check his eyes and indicated that he has some lenticular sclerosis but it is common with older dogs and should not affect his vision. I also got his rabies certificate and chip #. I gave them the extra micro chip back for the next rescue.
Description: Juan Diego and his brother Frito Bandito were surrendered to the Austin Animal Control and made their way to ATDR after a few weeks at the shelter. Diego is a beautiful black and tan tweenie male with fabulous long hair and a shiny coat! Diego is a bit shy at first but warms up quickly and seems to like most dogs and humans alike! He is easy going, kennel trained, loves to go outside on a leash, walks well and close to his human while on a walk! He is not much of a barker and not much of a burrower - but Juan Diego loves his foster Mom! Diego is such a smart little pup and takes to general commands or preferences VERY well with consistency. He is a total sweetheart, and he loves following his foster mom around anywhere and everywhere she goes – minus the bathroom if the shower is running! He wants to make sure that you won’t disappear. If it was up to him, he would be your shadow around the clock. (He does not whine when you’re out of the house, though!) He craves love and affection, and would be the perfect - and loyal - companion to anybody who would offer that to this little angel.
Diego is truly the most loving and happy little guy and I think he would do well with any sized family with children over 12 and at least one other friendly pup. Cats and other furry pets would not be good. He does stress out a bit when he is crated but does well in the house if left out. I do keep doors to bedrooms and the bathroom closed and any food items put away. He is not afraid to jump and seek out tempting smells. He is a chewer who loves to take his favorite toys on a walk with him (see pics below) but can be easily redirected from putting things in his mouth that aren't supposed to be chewed (shoes, slippers, towels)..
