Description:

Meet Mickey Mc T - a beautiful dilute red wire haired dachshund!

This little guy was found wandering the grounds of a church in the Memorial Area of Houston on 09/11/15.   Attempts were made to find his owners and no one claimed him.  He was taken in by a wonderful couple who had him scanned for a chip and found none.  He has been neutered, chipped, is heartworm negative and is around 4 years of age. His weight is now around 20 pounds – he was very thin when originally rescued.

Mickey is very smart and learned very quickly the word "crate" – he runs to his crate when it is spoken and he gets a treat once he’s inside.  He learned the ‘sit’ command very quickly, and is learning the ‘stay’ command.  He is fully house trained and leash trained.  He is not food aggressive and does not mind having his food bowl removed while he's eating.  He has learned the world 'drop' when commanded to release something from his mouth.

The foster family has 2 cats and 1 dog and Mickey gets along with all of them.  He has learned not to chase cats. He has tried it and found out the hard way that it’s a big No-No!

He does cower a little when told "No" in a loud voice.  Based on this reaction, the foster family thinks he may have been abused due to the way he reacts to loud noises or a loud "No".  He does like to run out the door for a romp, but will stop when you call him back to you by patting your legs and/or saying "No".

Children tend to want to hug or rough-house with dogs – Mickey is not that kind of dog.  He is a bit of a nipper when he feels threatened or is startled.  He would be best placed in a home with one or two adults and no children.

The foster’s dog has taught him to bark, when he hears ‘Enough’, he stops.  Mickey has quite the personality and just loves to be loved.  For a little guy, he’s quite the climber – he’s been caught on the kitchen table a couple of times!  He is a squirrel chaser and loves to chase them out of the yard.

Mickey is an extremely loving dog - all he really wants to do is either sit in your lap or lay by your side.  He has a bed of his own and lies in it during quiet times. He loves going on walks and is learning not to pull on the leash.  He will sleep in the bed with you, if allowed.   Mickey will provide a great deal of joy and comfort to the folks that adopt him.

Won't you consider this handsome boy for a home of his own!
