Dental Prophylaxis Surgical Discharge Summary
Physical examination findings
The pre-surgical physical exam revealed moderate dental tartar. No other abnormalities were noted.
Testing findings
Pre-anesthetic lab work revealed no abnormalities.
Surgery
Ultrasonic sonic scaling, subgingival curettage, polishing, fluoride application. Dental extractions were not required today. The gums appear healthy.
Recovery
Post-operative recovery was quiet and uneventful. "Mocha" was offered Science Diet canned A/D and water post-operatively.
Prescriptions
Please give all prescribed medications as directed on the label. Pain medication should be started tonight at bed time.
Follow up care and testing
Only small meals and water should be offered tonight, with normal feeding resuming tomorrow morning. Please do not change the diet unless directed otherwise. Canned or moistened food may be necessary over the next few days to discomfort from the subgingival curettage.
Home care is extremely important for maintenance of a healthy oral cavity. Please use the prescribed home care products to reduce the buildup of plaque and tartar. The oral cavity should be checked in 3-6 months to make sure the appropriate home care is being used. Description: Mocha lost her home when his owners decided that they were too busy and no longer had time for her. She and her little buddy, Cosmo were surrendered to a suburban shelter and ATDR was notified. These sweet dogs were lost without their family, but are slowing bonding to the foster and feeling a bit more secure about life.
Mocha is a stunning red long haired girl, between 8-9 yrs old. She is happy and overweight and will be having a dental soon. Mocha is chubby, low to the ground and very fluffy. Stay tuned for more on this sweetheart and her medical evaluation this week.
